March 16, 2020 – Message from Pastor Andy and Pastor Elizabeth
We are deeply appreciative of your kind and supportive emails in recent days. The church staff — like everyone else we know — is trying to decipher how best to respond to the current COVID-19 crisis. The landscape shifts day to day. Thankfully, God’s goodness “changeth not.”
Last night, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged us to avoid group gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks https://www.cdc.gov/
After much consideration, and with the understanding that we will continue to review the situation, we have taken the following step: In-person church activities, including worship, will be suspended until Sunday, May 10. We wish it weren’t so. Gathering together on Sunday and meeting throughout the week are central to who we are. As difficult as this time away may be, we will discover new ways to Be the Church for one another and for the wider community. Other updates to share:
Live-stream worship will continue on Sunday mornings at 10:00 on our church’s Facebook page. We will improve the sound quality, make the connection to the link easier for everyone to navigate, and provide worship resources for you in advance.
Let’s keep reaching out to one another by phone and email in the coming days. If someone’s on your mind, let them know. To supplement this, Elizabeth and I have divided the congregation (active members, friends, and prospective new members) into 27 teams. Each team has a captain, who will make every effort to be in touch weekly with his or her group by phone and email.
For now, Pastor Elizabeth and I will call more, email more, and write more notes — and, when necessary, we will visit in person. We will also be able to visit with you by ZOOM in the coming days. Of course, if at any point, you or someone you know needs assistance securing basic necessities, please let us know.
As I write, we plan to hold All Boards next Wednesday by Zoom. We are also exploring ways to meet virtually with our children, the confirmation class, and the youth groups. We realize that not everyone is at the same mile marker on the Technological Highway, but we will provide as much support around this as possible. An email will be sent in the next day or so to begin the ZOOM “tutorial.”
The doors of the church are locked. Members who need to enter the building will have a code provided by the pastors or office.
NOT LEAST …
Please count yourself among those for whom you care. Do more of what helps. Walking outside? Praying? Playing music at considerable volume? Sitting still? Cooking? Playing games? Calling a friend? Be sure to do what fills your heart … and please make time to rest. We will get through this. In the meantime, let’s love one another like never before.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Andy & Pastor Elizabeth
